GrindLife: a free life simulator on real city streets

GrindLife is a free life simulation game you play in your browser. You start at the bottom in a real city, take a real job, and see what's left after tax and rent.

Every wage, rent and fare in the game comes from public data for that city, and the sources are listed in the game. Other people are in the city with you, live.

Questions people ask

Is GrindLife free?

Yes. It's free to play in any modern browser on a phone or a computer. There's nothing to download and no card to give.

How is it different from BitLife?

BitLife is a text game with made-up numbers and you play alone. GrindLife puts you on a 3D map of a real city, with pay, tax and rent taken from public sources, and the other players are real people.

How real are the numbers?

Pay comes from government wage data and labour law, tax from the tax authority's own rules, and rents from housing surveys. Where a figure is an estimate the game says so.

How long does a game last?

One real day is one month of your life, so a career plays out over weeks. You can play five minutes on the bus or an hour at night.

Who can play?

Adults, 18 and over.
