Copyright Policy
The short version
- Players can play music, publish books and share other things in GrindLife. They must own it or have permission.
- If something here uses your work without permission, send us a notice. We take it down quickly.
- If your content was taken down by mistake, you can send a counter notice.
- Players who keep sharing other people's work lose their account.
1. Our designated agent
We follow the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512). Send copyright notices to our designated agent:
[Agent name, as registered]
Nick Githinji, doing business as SetForMoney
[Mailing address, as registered]
Email: [copyright email, as registered]
Or use our contact form with the subject "Copyright".
Our agent is listed in the U.S. Copyright Office's directory of designated agents.
2. Reporting content that uses your work
Your notice must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name works).
- What work you say is being used without permission (for example, the song title and artist, or the book).
- Where it is in GrindLife, with enough detail for us to find it: the player's @handle, the party, event or listening party, the book's link, and the date and time if it was played live.
- How to reach you: name, address, phone number and email.
- A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act for them.
Inside the game you can also tap Report on a track, a broadcast, a listening party or a book and choose "Copyright". We review every report. Reports from several players in a short time pause a live broadcast while we look; one report alone does not. For a formal takedown, which we act on directly, please also send the notice above.
3. What we do
- We remove or disable the content quickly once we receive a complete notice.
- We tell the player who shared it, and give them a copy of the notice.
- Music played live is not recorded or stored on our servers. We stop the broadcast, and can pause that player's ability to broadcast.
4. If your content was taken down by mistake
If you believe it was removed because of a mistake or misidentification, send our agent a counter notice that includes:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- What was removed and where it was before.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief it was removed because of a mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address and phone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you are outside the United States, any judicial district where we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice.
We send your counter notice to the person who complained. If they do not tell us within 10 to 14 business days that they have filed a court action, we may put the content back.
5. Repeat infringers
We end the accounts of players who repeatedly share content that infringes other people's copyright. In general, three valid notices about the same account lead to its closure, and we may act sooner in serious cases.
6. False notices
Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly misrepresents that content is infringing, or that it was removed by mistake, may be liable for damages. Please make sure your notice is accurate.
